2005 LOWE ALPINE KERRY CHALLENGE
A huge thank you and congratulations to all teams who took part. Thank
you also to our sponsors and to all companies who
generously donated prizes. The event exceeded expectations.
Debra Ireland and Fighting Blindness would like to say a big
THANK YOU to everyone involved!
64 teams put their boots on for the 2nd Lowe Alpine Kerry
Challenge which took place on the 17-19th June 2005. It was a magnificent
turn-out. Participants were in great form and were
eager to get into the hills.
Warm sunshine and blue skies greeted challengers as they set off
on the first day from Loch an Chuis through Macgillycuddy’s Reeks,
passing spectacular views of Cahir. Then on through the Black
valley, finishing at Kate Kearney’s cottage at the Gap of Dunloe.
Mass
beach start from Fermoyle Beach
The 2nd day involved a mass start at Fermoyle beach, a fairly steep
ascent around Brandon and then dropping down to experience spectacular
views of Brandon Head and the 3 sisters. Dingle at it’s magnificent
best! Teams were tired from the steep climb up but felt it was worth
it when they saw the awesome scenery from the top.
Day 3 of the Challenge was based in Muckross, part of Killarney National
Park. Bright sunshine ensured that everyone saw the best that Killarney
had to offer. At the prize giving ceremony, teams celebrated their successful
completion of 75km’s in aid of two worthy charities.
Congratulations and thanks to all the teams for taking part. The energy,
enthusiasm, strength of spirit, good humour and fun made it a great
event. DEBRA Ireland wishes to thank each and every person who took
part for raising valuable funds for vital research into a cure for EB.
